Biography

My name is Jody Anthony Cortes. I was born and raised in New York City but I currently live in Los Angeles. I got my start behind the camera back in high school as a photographer for my year book and I have always loved photographing events as they unfold before me. For example, when running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain I stepped in front of the stampede just to get the perfect shot

I consider this vacation shooting.

As an assistant for two Los Angeles portrait photographers I learned more about photographing people and creating moods with lighting. At the same time I was studying photo journalism in college where I developed a skill for telling a story through photography and an eye for capturing moments in time for all to see. I covered news events for a wire service and I shot in some chaotic conditions such as the Los Angeles Lakers Basketball riot of 2000 taking photos of the burning police car.

<>I started doing my own studio lighting with models and at the same time photographing celebrity news events for a couple of wire service companies that supply magazines and television shows with images. NO, this does not make me paparazzi- I am an event photographer who is invited by the PR companies and movie studios to cover events like: the Academy Awards, MTV Awards, Emmys, and movie premieres that seem to happen every week in Hollywood. I also work on movie and commercial sets as the still photographer when work permits. My work can be seen in over 30 magazines in more than 17 countries world wide. Also I have been published in four books overseas. I am currently working for WENN (World Entertainment News Network).

Most of my work these days is shot with Nikon digital cameras but I do prefer shooting my black and white photos on film whenever I can. 'Viva la Film'
