Biography

My name is Jody Anthony Cortes. I was born and raised in New York City now live in Los Angeles. I started taking photos when I was in high school for the year book. I have always liked photographing events as they unfold is also great enjoyment. For example I have run with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain where I stepped in front of the bulls as they were coming towards me for the perfect shot. I considered this vacation shooting. and now lives in

I was a photographer's assistant in Los Angeles for two portrait photographers where I learned the ways of photographing people and creating moods with lights. At this time I also was learning photo journalist in college, where I learned the style of telling a story threw photography and to be ready to capture the moment in time for all can see. I covered news events for a wire service where I got to shoot in the most non desirable conditions like the Los Angeles Laker Basketball riot of 2000.Where you might have seen me taking photos of the burning police car.

I started doing my own studio lighting with models and at the same time photographing celebrity news events for a couple of wire service companies that supply magazines and television shows with images. And NO, this does not make me a paparazzi, I am an event photographer who is invited by the PR companies and movie studios to cover events like: Academy Awards, MTV Awards, Emmys, and movie premieres that seem to happen every week in Hollywood. I also currently work on movie and commercial sets as the still photographer when work permits. My work can be seen in over 30 magazines in more than 17 countries  world wide. Also I  have been published in  four books over seas.

Currently I am working for WENN (World Entertainment  News Network)

Most of my work these days is shot with digital cameras but I do prefer shooting my black and white photos on film when ever I can. ‘Viva la Film’
